Celery juice has risen in popularity since it’s a lifesaver. We have witnessed most celebrities and influencers drink it. Its popularity grew after Medical Medium, a book by Anthony Williams, became known.

Importance of celery juice

It strengthens your bile.

Healthy bile helps in breaking down fats. It also eases getting rid of waste from your body. Hydrochloric acid is activated, and it helps in breaking down proteins very fast. When there are low acidic levels in the stomach, the body uses a lot of energy to break down proteins.

Often we end up feeling tired and lethargic. Celery juice has also known to activate or grow back gastric mucus. Gastric mucus prevents acid reflux and ulcers while helping the stomach lining heal.

Fights cancer

Celery has a flavonoid called apigenin, which kills cancer cells. It also has polyacetylenes, which slow the growth of mutated cells while boosting immunity and reducing toxicity.

Natural anti-inflammatory

Celery contains antioxidants; apigenin and luteolin. They help reduce inflammation and treat most inflammatory diseases. It soothes not only the body but also the nerves causing a relaxing effect.

Lowers cholesterol

A compound in celery known as 3-n-butylphthalide has lipid-lowering properties resulting in less cholesterol in our bloodstream.

Improves blood flow

The juice has properties that act as muscle relaxants allowing calcium and potassium to flow easily in cells, letting blood vessels contract.

Improves liver health

Celery prevents fat build-up in the liver. The nutrients found in celery help the liver produce enzymes to flush out toxins and fats. The salts found in celery also help strengthen the liver.

Improves digestion

Celery acts like a mild laxative increasing circulation in the intestines by moving things along. It also helps with bloating, constipation, and puffiness.

Clear and glowing skin.

Celery has high amounts of water, calcium, selenium, luteolin, and potassium & antioxidants. These elements help in keeping the skin clear and glowy. It also slows down the ageing of the skin by producing collagen. Some people swear by it, saying it cured their acne and psoriasis.

Prevents urinary tract infections

Strengthens bones

Celery is high in silicon, vitamin K and calcium, which help strengthen bones.

Improves sleep patterns

Magnesium in celery juice help in better sleep. Also, it has compounds that help in calming the nerves enhancing better sleep.

Weight loss

Since it is low in calories, it fills up your stomach. You eventually end up consuming fewer calories than usual, leading to weight loss.

Tips for celery juice consumption

  • Eating the stalk itself isn’t the same as drinking its juice. Williams recommends drinking its juice. This way, you get to consume more of the celery.
  • Also, please don’t mix it with other vegetables like spinach, apples, or kale. Combining them is good, but maximum benefits when consumed alone, as advised by Williams.
  • Drink 16 ounces of straight juice on an empty stomach. The liquid shouldn’t serve as your breakfast since it’s low in calories. Wait for at least 15 minutes, then consume your breakfast.
  • Drink it fresh immediately after juicing. If you’re unable to do so, don’t drink it more than 24 hours later. Keep the juice in a mason jar tightly closed and store it in the fridge. It is, however, recommended to drink it as fresh as possible.
  • You can use either juice if you have a juicer. If you don’t, blend it with some water, then strain it.
  • It is better to consume organic celery. Make sure to wash your celery well before juicing.
  • If the taste isn’t as appealing, you can add ginger or fresh lemon juice to it.
